A Cut to Length Line (CTL Line) is an automatic steel processing machine that uncoils steel strip, levels it, cuts it to a preset length, and stacks the finished sheets.
Its main purpose is to transform large steel coils into flat sheets with accurate dimensions and excellent flatness. CTL lines are widely used in steel service centers, construction, automotive, home appliance, furniture, and metal fabrication industries.
If your raw material is supplied in coils but your customers require steel sheets, a cut to length line is the ideal solution.
A CTL line can process various metal coils into finished sheets, including:
Carbon steel sheets
Cold rolled steel sheets
Hot rolled steel sheets
Galvanized steel sheets
Stainless steel sheets
Aluminum sheets
The finished sheets can be produced in different lengths according to customer requirements, making the line suitable for both standard and customized production.

The production process is straightforward but highly automated:
●Decoiler – Holds and uncoils the steel coil.
●Leveling Machine – Removes coil set and improves sheet flatness.
●NC Length Control – Measures the strip and controls cutting accuracy.
●Flying Shear – Cuts the strip without stopping production.
●Stacking Unit – Automatically collects and stacks finished sheets.
This continuous process ensures high productivity while maintaining consistent sheet quality.
Although every section is important, the leveling machine is the heart of a cut to length line.
Steel coils naturally contain internal stress and curvature after rolling. The leveler uses multiple precision rollers to repeatedly bend and release the strip, producing sheets with significantly improved flatness.
A high-quality leveling system helps achieve:
Better sheet flatness
Reduced residual stress
More stable cutting accuracy
Higher quality finished products
For many customers, the leveling performance is more important than simply choosing a higher cutting speed.
A cut to length line can be customized according to coil width, thickness, and production capacity.
| Item | Typical Range |
| Material | CR, HR, GI, Stainless Steel, Aluminum |
| Coil Width | 600–2000 mm |
| Thickness | 0.3–12 mm |
| Sheet Length | Customized |
| Cutting Speed | Depends on material and configuration |
| Operation | Fully automatic PLC control |
The actual specification should always be selected based on the customer's material and production requirements.

Before selecting a machine, these five parameters are the most important:
1. Material Type
Different materials require different leveling force and cutting configurations.
Carbon steel
Stainless steel
Galvanized steel
Aluminum
2. Coil Width
The maximum coil width determines the machine frame size and leveling width.
3. Material Thickness
Thickness directly affects the required leveling rollers, motor power, and shear capacity.
4. Finished Sheet Length
Tell us your minimum and maximum sheet lengths so the NC control system can be configured correctly.
5. Production Capacity
If you require high daily output, a flying shear and automatic stacking system will greatly improve efficiency.
Traditional stop-cutting reduces productivity because the strip must stop before each cut.
A flying shear cuts while the strip continues moving, offering several advantages:
Higher production efficiency
Continuous operation
Better length consistency
Reduced production downtime
For medium and high-speed production, flying shear is often the preferred solution.
CTL lines are widely applied in:
✅Steel service centers
✅Roofing sheet production
✅Metal furniture manufacturing
✅Home appliance panels
✅Automotive components
✅Electrical cabinet fabrication
✅Construction steel processing
Wherever flat steel sheets are required, a cut to length line plays a key role in the production process.
A Cut to Length Line cuts steel coils into steel sheets, while a Slitting Line cuts coils into narrow strips and rewinds them into smaller coils.
Most CTL lines can process carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, cold rolled steel, hot rolled steel, and aluminum, depending on the machine configuration.
